Merger of the provider services arms of South Birmingham PCT, Heart of Birmingham teaching PCT and Birmingham East and North PCT

South Birmingham PCT provider services arm (South Birmingham Community Health), Heart of Birmingham PCT provider services arm (HOBt Community Services) and Birmingham East and North PCT provider services arm (BEN Community Health Services) are proposing to merge. South Birmingham Community Health will act as host to the community services presently provided by HOBt Community Services and BEN Community Health Services.

Consistent with its draft interim merger guidelines, the CCP will examine the costs and benefits of the proposed merger to patients and taxpayers, in order to ascertain whether the transaction is consistent with Principles 9 and 10 of the Principles and Rules for Cooperation and Competition. In doing so, the CCP will consider the effect of the transaction on patient choice and competition for health services in Birmingham or a wider area.

The CCP would welcome submissions in writing from interested individuals and organisations on this issue or on any other matter relevant to the CCP’s assessment of this transaction under the Principles and Rules of Cooperation and Competition. To submit evidence please use the email address: cases@ccpanel.gsi.gov.uk.
